A Reconstructed Week Is Not a Lived One
By Friday evening we can make almost any week look legitimate. That still doesn’t say whether anything important had room.
By Friday evening, we can make almost any week look legitimate.
The calendar is full. The messages were answered. The urgent things were handled. Every empty gap can be explained.
That still doesn’t tell me whether anything important had room.
My calendar is good at recording what arrived in my inbox. It doesn’t show me what I protected before the week got busy.
Before the week starts, I try to decide three things:
- What am I building that I will still own when the week is over?
- What time am I keeping for family, health, and thinking?
- What will I review on Friday to see what actually moved?
The space around them matters. The week will fill itself if you let it. If every block is available to the loudest request, the important things get whatever is left.
A full calendar can explain your exhaustion. It can’t tell you that you spent the week well.
