Your Store Listing Is Creative Too
A store listing can win the install and still acquire the wrong player. Screenshots shape who converts, not just how many.
A store listing can win the install and still acquire the wrong player.
Screenshots and preview videos behave like paid creative. They set an expectation before anyone has touched the product, so the assets you pick don’t just move conversion. They shape who converts — and what those players believe they’re installing.
Take the most visually striking screenshot in your listing. Often it’s from deeper in the game. It may convert better than anything from the early experience, while the first ten minutes look and feel like a different product. Nothing has to be fake for the expectation to be wrong.
That’s what store-listing tests usually miss when they’re judged on conversion rate alone. A CVR lift is useful. But if you can measure downstream, the real question is what kind of users that variant brought in and how they behaved after install.
At that point, the listing isn’t just improving conversion. It’s shaping the expectations — and the composition — of the cohort entering Day 0.
One check before you call a winner
Would the player who installs because of these screenshots still feel they downloaded the same game after the first ten minutes?
