Definition

Bid density.

The number of bidders actively competing for a given impression — more independent bidders usually means stronger clearing prices.

Bid density describes how competitive an auction is. An impression with many active bidders tends to clear closer to its true value; one with a single dominant bidder clears lower.

It explains why adding a network can help in a geo or format where competition is thin, and why it often does little elsewhere. Check bid rate per network per placement before assuming another adapter will lift yield.
