Definition

Country tiers.

Also called: Tier 1 / Tier 2 / Tier 3

Informal grouping of markets by ad and purchase value — Tier 1 (e.g. US, UK, Japan) through Tier 3 — used to plan UA and read monetization.

Tiers summarise that users in different countries cost different amounts to acquire and generate different revenue. Tier 1 typically has the highest CPIs and eCPMs; Tier 3 the lowest.

The useful comparison is not cost or yield alone but the ratio between them, plus retention in each market. A cheap market with proportionally lower yield is not automatically a better deal, and a blended average can hide one market that is burning cash.
