Guardrail metric.

Also called: Counter-metric

A metric an experiment must not damage beyond an agreed threshold, even while it optimises a different primary metric.

Guardrails make the cost of a win explicit. A test to raise ad ARPDAU might guard retention and payer conversion, with a stated acceptable deterioration and a rollback point decided before results arrive. Without them, teams judge the trade-off only after they know which metric improved.
