Definition

Minimum detectable effect.

Also called: MDE

The smallest true change an experiment is designed to detect reliably, given its sample size, variance, significance level and power.

The MDE drives sample size: halving it roughly quadruples the users needed. Set it from the business question — what size of change would actually alter the decision — rather than from whatever the available traffic allows.
