Why App and SaaS Teams Should Borrow From Game Growth

Games run the hardest version of the growth problem: free products, paid acquisition, ad and purchase monetization, and daily retention — all measured to the cent. The same systems travel to apps, SaaS, MMPs and ad networks.

Why do game growth practices travel to other products?

Because games run the hardest version of the growth problem. The product is usually free. Acquisition is paid and priced in an auction. Revenue comes from a mix of ads and purchases, earned daily. Retention decides everything, and all of it is measured to the cent. Teams that survive that environment build habits other products can use.

What transfers to apps and SaaS?

Why would an ad network, MMP or analytics platform hire a gaming operator?

Because game studios are among their most demanding customers, and the operator has been that customer. Someone who has run UA at scale, rebuilt mediation and argued with attribution knows which features change decisions and which only change dashboards — useful for product strategy, go-to-market and partnerships.

What does not transfer?

Some mechanics are genre-specific — gacha, energy systems, LiveOps calendars. The principles transfer; the mechanics need translating. A good operator knows the difference.

Where I come from

Sixteen years in mobile games and digital products, most recently as Head of Revenue & Distribution at Games2win, on a portfolio with 575M+ lifetime downloads. I was a Meta Audience Network Ambassador (2019–2021) and independently managed senior relationships at Meta, Google, Unity and AppLovin. Gaming is where the rigour was built; the same systems earn the second session anywhere. Start a conversation.
