Definition

K-factor.

Also called: Viral coefficient, Organic multiplier

The number of additional users each user brings in — through invites, sharing or paid-driven organic uplift. Above 1, growth is self-sustaining.

Formula K = Invites per user × Invite conversion rate

Originally a virality coefficient (invites sent × conversion rate), K-factor is used loosely in mobile growth to describe how many organic installs each paid install generates.

In games, true viral K-factors are usually well below 1, so K acts as a discount on acquisition cost rather than a growth engine on its own. Treat any K estimate as a hypothesis to test, not a fact to scale on.
